Attended the ABATE of VA State Rally and 1st Capitol Chapter Motorcycle Rodeo this weekend.
It was a good time got to see some friends that I had not seen in a while.

If you ride a motorcycle and you are not a member of your State’s Motorcycle Rights Organizaton (SMRO) - YOU SHOULD BE!
These organizations do a lot to help protect our right to ride - but they need your help. I know a lot of folks think it is just about helmet laws, and some of it is, but there are also a lot of other issues that effect motorcyclist.
Here are a few Virginia MROs:
The Virginia Freedom Riders - http://www.vfr-race.com
ABATE of Virginia - http://www.abateofva.com/
Virginia Coalition of Motorcyclists (VCOM) - http://www.vcomonline.org/
National MRO:
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) - http://www.mrf.org/
The MRF works to protect our rights at the federal level.
Get involved. Join your local MRO and help protect the right to ride.

This bike was built by a High School Shop class.

I got to check it out in person at the Horse Smoke Out this year and it really is a nice looking scoot. Some great details on the thing. I like the way the exhaust is routed up under the seat, the ape hangers are wicked, and the big orange Fram Oil Filter set up is totally cool - old school all the way, kind of an Indian Larry style. Looks good, these pics don’t do it justice. If you get a chance to check it out at a bike show somewhere make sure you give it a good once over.
Top notch work guys.
To see some pictures of the 2005 build and the 2006 build visit the Kennedy High School Chopper Class web site.
A guy is at the Pearly Gates, hoping to be admitted, and St. Peter says to the guy, “I can’t see that you did anything really good in your life, but you never did anything bad either. I tell you what, if you can tell me one really good deed that you did, you’re in.”
So the guy says, “Once I was driving down the road and saw a gang of bikers assaulting this poor girl. So I pulled over, got out my car, grabbed a tire iron and walked straight up to the gang’s leader–a huge ugly guy with a studded leather jacket, bald head but with hair all over his body, and a chain running from his nose to his ear.
Undaunted, I ripped the chain out of his nose and ear and smashed him over the head with the tire iron. Then I turned around and, wielding my tire iron, yelled to the rest of them, ‘You leave this poor, innocent lady alone! You’re all a bunch of sick, deranged animals! Go home before I teach you all a lesson in pain!’”
Impressed, St. Peter says, “Really? I can’t seem to find this in your file. When did this happen?”
“Oh, about two minutes ago.”
Just an update on where we are at.
Everything is ready to go. We have tested and retested our shopping cart system to make sure everything is working. We will be using PayPal to process payments and everything is in order there - working great.
We are busy entering our helmet sticker inventory into the shopping cart database and that is nearly done. We have over 100 helmet sticker designs and will be adding more each month.
Look for an announcement for the grand opening of our store later this week.
We are looking forward to opening our biker helmet sticker store and hope that you will stop by later on this week, have a look around, maybe buy a sticker or 2, and let us know what you think.
So I am watching the Food Network the other night, I enjoy watching Rachael Ray’s $40 a Day show and there was a commercial for a new show with Alton Brown called Feasting on Asphalt. Didn’t really catch too much of the commercial but it had something to do with him on his motorcycle, so I did a google search to find out a bit more.
Seems that Alton Brown will be taking a road trip. Not just any old road trip, a good old fashion motorcycle road trip. He is starting in Savannaha, Georgia and riding his motorcycle around the country and doing a show on eating on the road. Wasn’t too sure how good this may be - so he is going to ride a few miles end up at a resturaunt, whatever. Then I came across some info in the press area of his website. Seems that he is actually going to stay on the road, on his motorcycle, for a month. Eating at diners, truck stops, and camping along the way.
Here is a bit from Alton’s site:
“Why a motorcycle? As far as I’m concerned, there’s no better way to experience the road than from the back of a bike. Being exposed to the elements presents thrills and challenges alike, most of which can’t be captured in a ‘cage’ (that’s what motorcycle people call cars),” said Alton. “Although we’ll stay in the occasional motor lodge as needed, many nights will be spent under tent or stars. For vast majority of human history, hotels didn’t exist and eating meant lighting a fire. The social aspect of sitting around that fire is one of the things our culture lost by taking most of our meals locked inside our cars.”
Right on man.
The first episode of the show is scheduled to air July 29, 2006 at 9:00 PM and there are 4 episodes total; Episode II - Aug 5, Episode III - Aug 12, and Episode IV - Aug 19.

Badass Biker Bob wakes up at home with a huge hangover. He forces himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins and a glass of water on the side table.
He sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. Bob looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotless, clean. So is the rest of the house.
He takes the aspirins and notices a note on the table: “Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to go shopping. Love you.”
So he goes to the kitchen, and sure enough there is a hot breakfast and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table, eating.
Bob asks, “Son, what happened last night?”
His son says, “Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and delirious, broke some furniture, puked in the hallway, and gave yourself a black eye when you stumbled into the door.”
Confused, Badass Bob asks, “So, why is everything in order and so clean, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me?”
His son replies, “Oh, that! Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off, you said, “Lady, leave me alone, I’m married’!”
Last October at Biketoberfest Sandy and I checked out Billy Lane’s Blood, Sweat, and Gears show. You can read a write up I did on it at the VABiker.net.
The whole deal behind the show is that Billy, along with a few other motorcycle industry superstars (Kendall Johnson, Paul Cox, Mondo, Aaron Greene, and a few others) build or customize a bike on the back of a truck that Billy has turned into a motorcycle workshop on wheels. Once the bike is finished it is given away to a United States service member.
Last week I bought the Blood, Sweat, and Gears DVD that was released a few months ago and Sandy and I watched it last Friday night. I gotta tell you it is well worth the money.
The DVD is a documentary that shows how and why Billy came up with the concept for the tour, how they built the fabrication shop on wheels, and then follows the tour to Daytona Bike Week, Laughlin, Laconia, Sturgis, and Biketoberfest. (At the Biketoberfest stop, which is the last stop on the tour, on day two just after they reveal the paint, there is me and Sandy, front row to the right. - Wow my 2 1/2 seconds of fame)
Here is what the back of the box says about the DVD:
This DVD is a “behind the scenes” peak into the live fabrication tour that swept the nation in 2005. Billy Lane and friends hit six major rallies last year with a 55ft. flatbed trailer that was transformed into a fabrication shop on wheels. Pledging to give something back, they customized 4 motorcycles throughout the course of the tour and gave them away to 4 very deserving U.S. Military Veterans. This is a must have for any DVD collection! Whether you are a member of the military or a motorcycle enthusiast, this is one you don’t want to miss.
Billy is doing the tour again this year at all the major rallys and I cannot wait to check it out again down at Biketoberfest.
I definitly agree that this is one you don’t want to miss. It is a great video and it is well worth the 20 bucks. You can get your own copy here.
